September 3, Columbus, Ohio – Two Columbus police officers were hurt while arresting suspects involved in an alleged robbery in the Hilltop neighborhood on Tuesday.
The situation unfolded when a man flagged down police near Sullivant and Ogden avenues, claiming he had been robbed at gunpoint. He gave officers a description of the suspects and their vehicle.
Police tracked down the vehicle at East Livingston Avenue and Alum Creek Drive but the suspects refused to stop. The vehicle eventually crashed into a building on Alum Creek Drive, leading the suspects to flee on foot. They were quickly captured by police, and one suspect was found with a handgun.
During the incident, one officer’s cruiser also crashed into the building, and a firearm was discharged, though it’s unclear if it was accidental.
The suspects received medical attention at the scene and are now facing felony charges. The two injured officers were taken to the hospital, treated, and later released. The incident is under investigation by the Columbus Police Homicide Unit.
