Columbus, Ohio – A judge in Franklin County has set a bond of $1 million for 19-year-old Jaquan Curry, who is facing charges for allegedly killing a man at a Waffle House near Ohio State University.
The arraignment took place on Friday morning in Franklin County Municipal Court. This follows Curry’s recent arrest by U.S. Marshals in Canal Winchester, and comes more than three months after the shooting incident on April 29.
Curry is charged with the murder of Ronald Diggs, 38. The confrontation began inside the Waffle House on North High Street and continued outside, where Curry reportedly used a handgun to fatally shoot Diggs in the chest.
In court, a representative for Diggs’ estate shared a message from Diggs’ mother, who expressed that Curry should not receive bail, noting the impact of the loss on her family.
Before the court session ended, Curry expressed his remorse, saying, “I just want to say I apologize.”
Curry is set to return to court for his next hearing on September 13.
